Prepare for Birth like you would a marathon
Today is the London Marathon, thousands of people will be ready to push their bodys’ to achieve something wonderful.
They might be feeling excited, apprehensive, unsure exactly how it’s going to go but ultimately have a belief that they can do it.
In my Hypnobirthing classes I will often mention the similarities with birth and running marathons.
In the run up to a marathon perhaps you’d visualise yourself running through that finish line feeling like an absolute goddess. You’d ensure your body was hydrated, fuelled and well rested. You’d approach it with a positive ‘can do this’ attitude. All this is important for Birth too. Treat the early part of labour this way and undoubtedly it will impact on the rest.
You start your marathon full of energy yet feeling that the finish line is a long way off, not knowing exactly when you’ll get there. At times your body is tired and you wonder if you can carry on. You see your supporters on the sidelines cheering you on “you can do it” “you’re doing amazingly” it boosts you and you regain focus.
You continue getting closer to your destination with every single step. Some of those steps feel hard and you are beginning to get tired. You can do it. You’re almost there. You feel the power of your endorphins helping make this experience easier because your body is pretty incredible.
You see the finish line, your endurance has really been tested. This is hard work but you’re almost there. You’ve almost done it. From somewhere you find that energy, your supporters smiling reassuring you. You are stronger than you ever knew.
You cross that finish line and the feeling is incredible! You’ve done it! Incredible hormones flood your body. You’re tired but more awake than you’ve ever been. And perhaps soon enough you’ll do this again 😉
Preparing for birth with mental preparation and techniques to keep you going, just like running a marathon will always make a difference. This is a huge part of Hypnobirthing. If you haven’t booked your course yet please get in touch. I have only one couple place remaining on my May group course and one on July’s, June is now full.
I also have 2 places on my Pregnancy Relaxation and Confidence for Birth morning on the 30th April.
