A letter to my wife…
One of my clients has written this beautiful post dedicated to his incredible wife to honour how amazing she was throughout the birth of their beautiful daughter…
So, here we are darling, 5 weeks after the birth of our child and I thought I better put this in writing before nappies and wet wipes erase all of my memory!
The brief: To bring our baby in the world in a calm and natural way.
What did we get: 52 hours of exhausting labour resulting in a caesarean section.
Is that basic description fair though, and does it sum up our experience in the way that I see it, as I know that you feel a little bit like you’ve been cheated of “our perfect birth story” due to the C section.
On the 26th of March, 12 days past the EDD, we were routinely booked into the hospital as we were an IVF pregnancy. Our decision was mutual that we’d begin the process via induction.
As we’d been to hypnobirthing, we were both prepared for what was ahead of us – hospital bag full of tea lights, music selection loaded, snacks a plenty and mentally, we were both ready.
What I wasn’t expecting though, was the level of physical endurance that you would take in your stride. From the get go, you were unbelievably focused, you had such power of control and used all of the techniques which we’d learnt and practiced from hypnobirthing to perfection!
Because of you, our daughters last hours inside were as relaxed as they had been for the 42 weeks beforehand. There was never a moment of panic, nor loss of control and for that, I have such proud and thankful memories. You say that the way she was delivered wasn’t what we wanted, but it was still 3rd preference on our wish list (1st was totally natural, 2nd was with a little assistance and 3rd was a C section), but 3rd is still a wish – had you not kept totally in control, it could have been so different……….panic and screaming, stress levels for you and Rose rising by the minute (and you know what that would have made me like!) but none of that happened – we were able to make every decision one which we both had time to discuss and weigh up, and throughout the entire process, Rose was inside happy as Larry!
Every part of her birth which you had control of, was done with love and consideration. She was never going to come out without a little bit of help (we did after all need a bit of help getting her in!). But the biggest and most important help which she got, was that her mother, my fantastic wife, met every challenge calmly and made sure that her introduction to the world was exactly as we planned.
You did it darling, you gave birth in the way that we wanted, and gave me a perfect daughter. And I love you for that. X
